Roland Emmerich Pulls Plug on Low-Budget Alien Thriller

So much for Roland Emmerich’s brief foray into no-budget filmmaking. The Independence Day director turned heads when word leaked about his next project, The Zone, a “found footage” thriller about alien invasion that was to be shot for under $5 million and star unknowns. However, THR is reporting that the movie, which was already in rehearsals, has been shut down. Rumor has it that Emmerich was worried about genre oversaturation, since the similar, Timur Bekmambetov-produced Apollo 18 was set to come out just before it next spring, but perhaps there’s enough behind-the-scenes tape from Emmerich’s movie to produce a “found footage” documentary about a filmmaker in crisis?
