Though The Toxic Avenger seems like a rather unlikely ‘80s franchise to revive, it just got a director who’s already familiar with strip-mining the decade for laughs: Steve Pink, whose last credit was Hot Tub Time Machine (he also co-wrote High Fidelity and Grosse Pointe Blank). Pink will now develop the “environmentally conscious action-comedy” about a janitor whose toxic waste transformation makes him both super-strong and irresistible to ladies. “The Toxic Avenger is exactly what the country — wait, that’s not big enough — what the world needs right now,” Pink told Deadline.
