You Won't Get to See Kathryn Bigelow's Next Project

Kathryn Bigelow's first major project after winning the Best Director Oscar for The Hurt Locker was intended to be The Miraculous Year, an HBO pilot she directed with an impressive cast, including Hope Davis, Frank Langella, Patti Lupone, and Susan Sarandon. However, the network had other ideas: Deadline is reporting that HBO declined to order the pilot to series, fearing that its exploration of a high-powered, creative New York family held only narrow appeal. Since HBO also declined to pick up last year's Sarah Michelle Gellar/Adam Scott drama The Wonderful Maladys about another neurotic New York family, maybe this would be the time for writers to start mixing up their pitches a little.
