Bono Has Nearly Annoyed at Least One World Leader Into Helping Poor Countries

It's a watershed moment in Bono's career as a sanctimonious do-gooder: The Guardian reports that, according to a memo upturned by WikiLeaks, Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi "considered increasing Italy's foreign aid budget during the country's 2009 G8 presidency to avoid a 'tongue-lashing' from Bono." Italy's aid to Africa has dropped over the past couple of years, though, despite a personal promise to Bono from Berlusconi, so Bono's methods haven't quite panned out. Still, who would have thought he was getting in powerful politicans' heads like this? [Guardian UK via Spinner]
