Following Annie and Cathy out the door, Brenda Starr will cease to be comic strip on January 2. The soapy strip about a fabulous journalist was created in 1940, syndicated in over 250 newspapers at the height of its popularity in the fifties, was made into a Brooke Shields movie, and puzzled generations of children by being that cartoon in the funny pages that wasn't supposed to be funny.
