Universal Ignites Firestarter Remake

Back in 1984, Universal’s Firestarter had a whole lot going for it — high-profile source material from Stephen King, a nifty concept, and a perfectly cast Drew Barrymore — but the execution was only middling. It’s surprising, then, that it’s taken the studio this long to get around to a remake; less surprising is the news today that the studio is hoping to turn the tale of a pyrokinetic little girl into a brand-new film franchise. (Presumably this means that the girl will be aged up, have her backstory scattered over three films, and no important villains will be set on fire in the first installment.) [Variety]
