Golden Globe Nominations Point to the Irrelevancy of Comedy Movies, the Golden Globes

Oof. It wasn’t a great year for comedic films, but these nominations still seem a little ridiculous. Here are the Golden Globe nominations for Best Motion Picture (Comedy/Musical): Yes, The Tourist, which is not only not a comedy, but currently has a whopping 20% on Rotten Tomatoes. And no, neither The Kids Are All Right nor Alice in Wonderland are comedies either. But hey, I guess Red was a comedy, right? At least the trailer made it seem like it was; I certainly didn’t see it.

The acting nominations aren’t much better! But at least they got some good ones in the TV categories:Love and Other Drugs! An erotic drama about Parkinsons! Yes, it is also a comedy, apparently.

I guess it’s fine. What comedic movies deserve nominations above these? There were really no standout comedy films this year (well, except for Four Lions), so yeah, sure, give the award to Annette Bening.

As for the TV nominations, here those are: These are fine, I suppose, but there are some glaring omissions: Community, for one. And Parks and Rec. But hey, I’m sure that Laura Linney show about dying of cancer is hilarious and worthy of a nomination in this category.
