Kathryn Bigelow Plans New Hurt Locker Follow-Up

Triple Frontier, a big-budget movie about South American organized crime that has had everyone from Will Smith, Sean Penn, Christian Bale, and Javier Bardem to Tom Hanks and Johnny Depp attached to it, was supposed to be Kathryn Bigelow’s follow-up to the Oscar-winning The Hurt Locker. But due to scheduling — most notably, Depp has to finish up his Tim Burton project — it looks like Bigelow will film another smaller movie before Frontier starts shooting in fall 2011. The movie is based on a true story, will be written by Hurt Locker’s writer, Mark Boal, has a budget of around $10 million, and will be a thriller about a black-ops group. Give or take the black-ops group, that formula worked out pretty well for Bigelow last time. [Variety]
