Robert Downey Jr. to Return to His Theater-Camp Roots

The actor — and singer! — is attached to produce and star in a musical from Brian Yorkey and Tom Kitt, the Tony Award–winning team behind Next to Normal. The story centers on two Broadway songwriters who find themselves bankrupt when their big-break musical flops, so they take jobs as counselors at the theater camp they attended as kids and plot a comeback. Downey actually attended theater camp as a kid, so Kitt and Yorkey lured him in. Meanwhile, Kitt is also working on a stage adaptation of Bring It On, and with his apparent skill for nabbing stars, perhaps he could get Kirsten Dunst to participate. [HR]
