The Women Film Critics Circle Awards have just been announced, and presumably for its portrayal of the painful, toe-breaking, never-eating ballerina lifestyle, Black Swan won the Worst Female Images in a Movie award. (Jackass 3D won “Worst Male Images in a Movie”; Conviction “Best Female Images in a Movie.”) In addition to recognizing Swan’s powerful ability to make them uncomfortable, the Women Film Critics Circle Awards was also respectful enough of the film not to ghettoize it by granting it victories in the “Best Movie About Women” or “Best Equality of the Sexes” categories.
