Three Stooges Movie Is Really Going to Happen

One of Hollywood’s most notorious never-gonna-happen projects may actually reach the shooting stage. Deadline reports that Bobby and Peter Farrelly’s big-screen reboot of The Three Stooges has gotten a start date — March 14 — now that 20th Century Fox was able to pluck the troubled project from MGM. So who’s going to play the Stooges? That’s unclear; Jim Carrey and Sean Penn were attached at various points but have dropped out, though Benicio del Toro might still be game to play Moe. (Paul Giamatti, another actor often bandied about for the project, assured Vulture recently that he’s not attached.) “Our feeling is that no star is too big to audition and no matter who it is, we’re going to have to see him in the role,” said Peter Farrelly. “This is not The Flintstones. You’ve got to be Moe Howard, Larry Fine and Curly Howard, and that could be a major movie star or an unknown.” [Deadline]
