In December, Derek Cianfrance told Vulture at the Gotham Awards that his previously announced HBO show would “try to give new meaning to the word ‘character development.’” A month later, we finally get the payoff for the joke: The show will be a single-camera comedy called Muscle set in the world of professional bodybuilding, adapted from Muscle: Confessions of an Unlikely Bodybuilder, Oxford grad Sam Fussell’s memoir of four years in the biz.
