Did the Kennedy Family Have The Kennedys Pulled?

Pressure from the Kennedy family played a role in the History Channel's decision to pull Joel Surnow's mini-series The Kennedys from its schedule, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Kennedy family has reportedly been lobbying to have the Katie Holmes project axed since it was first announced. A source said Disney's Anne Sweeney, who serves on the A&E Television Networks group board, was personally lobbied by Caroline Kennedy, who has a book deal with Disney's Hyperion publishing division. (A&E Television Networks includes History Channel.) Caroline's book will include previously unreleased interviews with Jackie Kennedy, and she agreed to edit and promote it. However, "that level of cooperation might have been unlikely if History had gone ahead with the Kennedys project," according to The Hollywood Reporter. Kennedy scion Maria Shriver, who once worked at NBC Universal in the news division, is also said to have "voiced her displeasure" with the project to outgoing NBC chairman Jeff Gaspin, who serves on the A&E board as well. Wow, it's all politics. [HR]
