Ricky Gervais: ‘I Don’t Think I Did Anything Wrong’

If there’s anything we’ve learned about Ricky Gervais since his notoriously brutal hosting stint at Sunday’s Golden Globes, it’s that he’s unrepentant and he likes to wear gold underpants. He addressed the former in an upcoming interview with CNN’s Piers Morgan: “If they didn’t want me, they shouldn’t have hired me,” Gervais said. “I don’t think I did anything wrong. Those were, like, gibes at these people, and I’m sure they’ve got a sense of humor.” When Morgan asked whether Gervais felt empathy for some of the targets he took personal swipes at — like Robert Downey Jr, whose past addictions Gervais joked about — the comedian answered, “I’m confronting the elephant in the room … Like I’m going to go out there and not talk about the issues in their industry? Don’t forget, I’ve got to be an outsider there. I mustn’t come out there as everyone’s mate and schmooze, that’s nauseating. I’ve got to come out there, and I’ve got to roast them.” [EW]
