Ryan Murphy Gets Satirized

In Every Day, a movie opening on Friday, TV writer Liev Schreiber considers having an affair because middle-class marriage, parenthood, and/or existence are giving him ennui. And also because he has Glee and Nip/Tuck creator Ryan Murphy for a boss. Every Day's writer and director, Richard Levine, worked in the Nip/Tuck writers' room for its entire run and based Schreiber's boss in the film, played by Eddie Izzard, on Murphy. Izzard runs a show called Mercy Medical and says things like, “Keep it fresh — and sexual," and “Yes! Bestiality, the final frontier. I love it!” Though Murphy declined to comment on Every Day, Levine says he saw the script and gave feedback. One of Murphy's notes included advising that Izzard play him "like Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada.” (If you needed more evidence that Kurt Hummel was just a Ryan Murphy avatar, there you go.)
