Feisty literary heroine Lisbeth Salander just had her coming-out party, and she did it on the cover of W. (Unlikely choice for a sneering cyberpunk, but let’s go with it!) That’s where Rooney Mara — the actress cast by David Fincher to play Salander in his upcoming English-language take on book phenom The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo — can be seen in costume for the first time, and it’s definitely convincing and a little bit scary in all the right ways. Not quite as convincing, says Fincher, were the other famous names who met with him for Salander, including Winter’s Bone star Jennifer Lawrence (not short enough) and Scarlett Johansson (too much of a bombshell; her audition was kindly described by Fincher as “Marilyn on a bike”).
