Baffling Its Producers, Skins Loses Two More Sponsors

On the heels of Taco Bell, H&R, Wrigley, GM, and totally unmerited controversy, two more sponsors have pulled their ads from Skins after only one episode. Today it was the deodorant Schick, not to be worn by sweaty teenagers, and the sandwich chain Subway, where we believe teenagers actually do eat. Producer Steve Morrison has responded: The original British show Skins, he pointed out, has been "blithely airing" in the U.K. for five years without any uproar. "I really have no idea specifically why advertisers are pulling out," he said. And for those whose issue is just that the premiere episode disappointed, Morrison went on to say that "if one sticks with it beyond the few things that are being fixated on by detractors, it should grow on the viewer." Once the character development kicks in, that sandwich chain will regret this decision! [HR]
