Aaron Sorkin ‘Is on Track’ to Write an HBO Series About Cable News

Aaron Sorkin is busy. He's been hitting the awards circuit, chatting up reporters, and waiting for tomorrow, the day when Oscar nominees are finally announced! He has the screenplay Moneyball in postproduction, and that John Edwards biopic in the works. However, he's made time to talk to HBO about a long-gestating drama he's writing, set behind the scenes at a nightly cable-news show. According to Deadline: "There is no deal in place, but after the Academy Awards, Sorkin's project is on track to get a pilot order by HBO." Sorkin, who wrote The West Wing, tried his hand at something similar with Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, which did not quite work. But just to get us excited about a project that it's still way too early to get excited about, Deadline points out that if Sorkin won an Oscar and headed straight to HBO, "he would follow the career trajectory of Alan Ball, who went on to create Six Feet Under, right after winning a writing Oscar for American Beauty." So if a bunch of things happen that haven't happened yet and might not, we could have another great series on our hands! Just for fun, let's start hyping this show already. [Deadline]
