Starz, FX Pass on The Kennedys

Last week, the History Channel yanked Joel Surnow's The Kennedys, a mini-series starring Katie Holmes, from its schedule. The move was perhaps in part a result of pressure from the real Kennedy family. Now Starz and FX, the latter part of Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp., have passed on the project as well. HBO already has its own Kennedys project in development based on the Vincent Bugliosi book Reclaiming History: The Assassination of President John F. Kennedy. And networks owned by NBC Universal, Disney, and Hearst, whose execs sit on the board of A&E and authorized the decision to pull Kennedys from History, also appear to be unlikely buyers. So, unless Showtime comes through, the shelf is starting to look like a cozy spot for this project. [HR]
