Ben Affleck in Talks to Direct Tehran Hostage Film

The Town director Ben Affleck is in negotiations to direct a new film on the Tehran hostage crisis called Argo. Based on a 2007 Wired magazine article by Joshuah Bearman titled "How the CIA Used a Fake Sci-Fi Flick to Rescue Americans from Tehran." Bearman's story chronicles the innovative rescue of six U.S. diplomats during the occupation of the American embassy by Iranians in 1979. In order to rescue the six, the CIA and the Canadian government concocted a story that the six were a group of film producers scouting a film titled Argo. Comic artist Jack Kirby actually created the designs used by the CIA in order to prove the existence of the film. George Clooney and Grant Heslov are producing the flick. [THR]
