The very excellent band LCD Soundsystem posted this note on their blog today: “lcd soundsystem are playing madison square garden on april 2nd, and it will be our last show ever. we are retiring from the game. gettin’ out. movin’ on. but we will be going out with a bang.” This Is Happening, the band’s most recent work, is arguably their most well-received and successful album to date, so it’s tough to believe that they’ll never play together again. But James Murphy insists it’s really over. The singer recently told Pitchfork: “It’s all just gotten bigger than I planned or wanted. Not that I’m against it but I don’t want to get bigger. What’s the goal now — get fucking huge? I don’t want to be a famous person. We’re not gonna do another record.” So April 2, dance yourselves clean. [Official site via Pitchfork]
