Cedar Rapids and Film’s Oldest Coming-of-Agers


In Cedar Rapids, out today, Ed Helms plays an affable insurance agent from a podunk Wisconsin town who undergoes a personal blossoming during a business trip to the titular, relatively less-podunk town. That got us thinking: What other movie characters have undergone a coming-of-age moment — traditionally in film a practice carried out by recent high school or college graduates, often during the summer months — later on in life? After several days cooped up in the Vulture research labs, we've come up with this — ten cinematic coming-of-ages, ranked chronologically by age, undertaken by a bunch of oldsters. Because it's never too late to blah blah blah.
