Steve Carell Will Save Meryl Streep’s Screen Marriage

Meryl Streep's long been attached to Great Hope Springs, a Vanessa Taylor script about longtime marrieds who try to save their union over a weekend of intense counseling, but a lot of other talent has come and gone: Mike Nichols was earmarked to direct but was supplanted by The Devil Wears Prada's David Frankel, and actors like Jeff Bridges and James Gandolfini have flirted with the part of Streep's husband. Now, though, we have some concrete casting, as Steve Carell is in talks to play the couple's therapist (a part Phillip Seymour Hoffman was once circling); he'll segue to that after he wraps up work on The Office. Already it's an improvement on Threat Level Midnight. [Deadline]
