weekend box office

Battle: Los Angeles Triumphs, Red Riding Hood Fails

Battle Los Angeles debuted in the top box office spot, bringing in $36 million over the weekend, but other debuts weren’t so lucky. The Amanda Seyfried vehicle Red Riding Hood opened at $14.1 million, well behind expectations for the film. But the biggest loser this week was Disney film Mars Needs Moms, which only grossed $5 million on its opening weekend — a tiny drop of its $150 million cost. One major success: Rango, which raked in $23.1 million this weekend, bringing up its two-week total to $68.7 million. And rounding out the top five: Matt Damon’s The Adjustment Bureau, which in its second weekend brought in $11.5 million. [HR]
