Pixar Replaces Reese Witherspoon With Third Lead From Boardwalk Empire

Reese Witherspoon is out as the lead voice actress in Pixar’s Scottish adventure The Brave, supposedly owing to “scheduling issues” (though Witherspoon hasn’t shot a new film since last year, and the voice schedule for an animated performer is hardly arduous). Did Pixar try to replace her with another A-lister who’d look good above the title? Not quite, reports EW: Instead, her role of Princess Merida will be filled by Boardwalk Empire’s Kelly Macdonald, though at least Macdonald is an authentic Scot. Meanwhile, Deadline reports that highfalutin author Malcolm Gladwell (The Tipping Point, Blink) had been brought on to contribute ideas to Hexum, a drama about a CIA analyst who figures out a terrorist pattern. Basically, everyone connected to the Mouse House is trying so hard to impress you right now. [Inside Movies/EW, Deadline]
