Yesterday, Jennifer Egan's rock-and-roll novel, A Visit From the Goon Squad, won the Pulitzer. Today, HBO has optioned it for a TV show. There's no script yet, but Egan will serve as a consultant. The novel is composed of a number of interlocking chapters, told from different characters' point of views, over a span of about four decades. All to say, it's not obvious how it would be translated into a television show (One era? More closely connected characters? Using one of the chapters as a jumping-off point for a series only very loosely based on the book? Setting it all in eighties San Francisco? All in the present-day music business?), but between punk rock, Egan, and HBO, it should be interesting. [Deadline]
