Lady Gaga’s Use of the Word ‘Retarded’ Was ‘Furiously Unintentional’

This week, Lady Gaga is all about apologies. First, the singer capitulated to the controversy stirred by Weird Al Yankovic and allowed him to officially parody her song "Born This Way," and now, she's penitent about describing another controversy — the similarities between "Express Yourself" and "Born This Way" — as "retarded" in an interview with NME. "I consider it part of my life's work and music to push the boundaries of love and acceptance. My apologies for not speaking thoughtfully," Gaga told Perez Hilton in a statement. "To anyone that was hurt, please know that it was furiously unintentional. An honest mistake, requires honesty to make." She closed by quoting ... well, herself: "Whether life's disabilities, left you outcast bullied or teased, rejoice and love yourself today." [Us]
