Musician and activist Gil Scott-Heron died Friday at age 62. The cause of death has not yet been released, but the artist had reportedly been sick following a trip to Europe, and he had been hospitalized over the past few days. Scott-Heron, perhaps best known for his spoken-word piece "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised," was recently sampled on Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. He had also been working with The xx's Jamie Smith of late. The 2010 New Yorker profile is online for free today. [NYT] Related: The Weary Blues [NYM]
