Finally, a Musician Who Doesn’t Rap Is Going to Prison

The drought is over! Pete Doherty (of Babyshambles and the Libertines) was sentenced to six months in prison this morning for cocaine possession, which is notable not only because the narcotics aficionado has somehow managed to avoid serious jail time up until now, but also because this is the first time in a while that a prominent rock-and-roll musician — as opposed to a prominent hip-hop artist — is heading to the big house. Just in the nick of time, too: rock music was really starting to feel not very dangerous. [Reuters]
