NBC wants Jennifer Love Hewitt to be Stabler's new partner on Law & Order: SVU. Travesty! Mariska Hargatay asked to scale back her hours for the upcoming season — which Christopher Meloni hasn't officially signed on for yet — and NBC said they'd comply, possibly by promoting her character and then slotting in a new female detective. "Jennifer Love is somebody who we've been circling," says NBC honcho Bob Greenblatt. Does no one at NBCHQ read Sports Guy? Hewitt is the iconic actress whom women irrationally hate. And even after years and years on The Ghost Whisperer, Hewitt never perfected the essential skill necessary for an SVU detective: the empathy stare. It's a look that says, "I can sympathetically listen to you recount your traumatizing sexual assault and through my gently raised eyebrows convey to you that I will seek vengeance on the monsters who did this."
