Mos Def will play "hardened ex-con" in multiple episodes of Dexter next season, and Colin Hanks will appear in all twelve installments as an artifacts expert who, of course, is connected to a bunch of murders — everyone on this show is connected to a bunch of murders. Narrative weaknesses and emotional betrayals aside, guest casting, particularly casting against type, has always been a Dexter strong suit: Jimmy Smits and John Lithgow as nutso murderers, Keith Carradine as a lovable good guy.
