NBC Renews Chuck, Picks Up Smash, Prime Suspect


As upfronts approach, it's now NBC's turn to start cutting shows and picking up pilots. One show that will survive is the eternally embattled Chuck, which earned a thirteen-episode season for next year. Meanwhile, early word has it that the network has picked up the Steven Spielberg–produced musical Smash (starring Debra Messing), the Maria Bello–toplined Prime Suspect, and untitled comedies from Whitney Cummings and Emily Spivey (the latter was considered a lock for the schedule, as it stars Christina Applegate, Will Arnett, and Maya Rudolph).
