Orlando Bloom Officially Joins The Hobbit

Orlando Bloom has joined Peter Jackson's upcoming two-part Hobbit movie, the director announced over Facebook on Friday. Exciting, yet suspect: Bloom's Lord of the Rings character, the elf Legolas, whom he is expected to reprise in The Hobbit, doesn’t appear in J.R.R. Tolkien’s original Hobbit book. (On Facebook, Jackson does not explicitly state what Bloom's role will be.) However, Frodo doesn’t appear in The Hobbit book either — which takes place 60 years before the events in Lord of the Rings — but Elijah Wood is expected to appear in the Hobbit film, reading the tale as a way of framing the movie. Rings' Cate Blanchett has already been cast in Hobbit, too. The gang's all here. [HeroComplex/LAT]
