Weekend Box Office: Thor Smashes Fast Five

What does failure look like? How about like the new Mel Gibson–Jodie Foster pic The Beaver, which managed to bring in only $104,000 at 22 theaters this weekend? So yes, it's probably not going to be Mel's big comeback moment. On the other end, Thor brought in $66 million in its opening weekend. Following far behind was Fast Five, in its second weekend, brilliantly penned by 5-year-old auteur Chris Morgan. In third place was Jumping the Broom, with $13.7 million, and Something Borrowed came in fourth, with $13.1 million. Animated comedy Rio came in fifth with $8.2 million, bringing its four-week total to $114 million. You can always count on talking macaws. [Movieline]
