Tina Fey Tries, Fails To Celebrate Great Women Writers

In this SNL web exclusive, Tina Fey celebrates great women writers…while the male announcer invariably turns the conversation back to the complete unfuckability of Virginia Woolf, Eudora Welty and other literary greats. The contrast of Fey encouraging women to become comedy writers and jokes about how Virginia Woolf was so hideous she died “not a moment too soon” is nothing short of depressing. While the nod to the announcer’s piss jar is hilarious/appreciated, the conceit that certain women are so unattractive they should just die is not exactly the freshest hook on which to hang their comedy hat. Also, give Agatha Christie a break! They didn’t have fluoridated water in Britain in 1890!
