Product placement hasn’t worked out too well for Morgan Spurlock — though he got plenty of press attention for his film POM Wonderful Presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold, the brand-financed documentary has mostly underperformed in theaters. Leave it to Kevin James, then, to show him how it’s done, because the full trailer for his talking-animals comedy Zookeeper is out, and though we’d usually be tempted to talk about the celebrity voices (Cher as a lion! Adam Sandler as a monkey!) or the “fat man, hot babe love interests” trope on display here, we must instead discuss the movie’s full-throttle product placement of T.G.I. Friday’s, which finds a Nick Nolte–voiced gorilla dreamily asking about the chain’s tasty-looking food (“It’s pretty good!” James attests) and then being driven there by James, with the restaurant’s sign serving as a trailer-ending tag. When it comes to shamelessly shilling, the next James Bond movie had better up its game.
