X Factor Contestants Had Private Info Hacked

Simon Cowell just can’t catch a break. His bid to launch The X Factor this fall in the U.S. has had a shaky start — the judges picked have been both underwhelming and elusive, while American Idol and The Voice have come on strong — and now, he can add potential identity theft to the show’s bad-luck streak. In an e-mail to contestants who have auditioned for the show, Fox reps admitted, “This week, we learned that computer hackers illegally accessed information you and others submitted to us to receive information about The X Factor auditions.” The breach includes the contestants’ names, e-mail addresses, Zip Codes, phone numbers, and dates of birth. Suffice it to say, if any of those contestants also have PlayStation Network accounts, this has not been a very good week. [Monsters and Critics]
