Anne Hathaway Didn’t Love It When James Franco Called Her a ‘Tasmanian Devil’

A month after his sleepy stint hosting the Oscars, James Franco appeared on The Late Show With David Letterman and explained himself thusly: “People said I was under the influence … I think I know why. I love her, but Anne Hathaway is so energetic, I think the Tasmanian Devil would look stoned standing next to Anne Hathaway.” In the current issue of Bazaar, Hathaway is asked about his remark, and it turns out that she would have preferred a descriptor that wasn’t from the golden age of Looney Tunes. “How did I take it?” she says. “I let James know that a whirling dervish is a more flattering comparison than a Tasmanian devil. I called him, and we e-mailed a bit.” Still, Hathaway has made her peace with critics who found her Oscar performance too buoyant: “Anyone who disliked my personality probably disliked my personality before the Oscars.” [Harper’s Bazaar]
