Hustle and Flow Director Mounts Tarzan Trilogy

Picture dated 1932 from one of the movie "Tarzan" shows Maureen O'Sullivan (L) in the role of Jane and Johnny Weissmuller playing Tarzan. Johnny Weissmuller was one of the world's best swimmers in the 1920s, winning five Olympic gold medals and one bronze medal. He won fifty-two US National Championships and set sixty-seven world records. After his swimming career, he became the sixth actor to portray Tarzan in films, a role he played in twelve motion pictures. (Photo credit should read OFF/AFP/Getty Images) Photo: OFF/2010 AFP

It's hard out there for a chimp, and Tarzan, who was raised among them, would know. So perhaps he's the perfect fit for Hustle and Flow director Craig Brewer, who just signed a deal with Warner Bros. to write and direct a new take on the Edgar Rice Burroughs vine-swinger, even though the studio is already developing another Tarzan movie with Tron Legacy director Joseph Kosinski. Giving Brewer's project the edge may be its franchise possibilities, since the director already has a trilogy in mind (guess he didn't listen to our advice against thinking one too many sequels ahead).
