Why James Franco Didn’t Get the Twilight Role He Wanted

Though he was a little disappointed by Breaking Dawn, the final book in Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series, James Franco still lobbied for a role in the film adaptation, hoping to film it concurrently with a Twilight-related performance piece. Sadly, his request was rejected by director Bill Condon. "For a moment it was like, what could James Franco play that doesn't feel like 'Where's Waldo?'" Condon told MTV. "I really thought about it for a second, and nothing made sense ... Frankly, if I had called and said 'Do you want to play that vampire from that country,' it would have involved hanging around for two months in a scene with 80 people, and I don't know if he really would have wanted to do it." Except that sounds like exactly the sort of perverse thing that would convince Franco to do it. What could have been! [MTV via Movieline]
