At today's Tintin panel at Comic-Con, one questioner asked Steven Spielberg which of his many produced films he wishes he'd directed himself, and while Spielberg initially demurred, he did confess that there was one project that his wife, Kate Capshaw, lobbied heavily for: American Beauty. "My wife read that script and said, 'If you don't direct this, I'm going to leave you,'" Spielberg joked. Fortunately, their family survived Spielberg's decision to hand directorial duties off to Sam Mendes, and the director credited his extended brood to the child actors he missed after making E.T. "I never felt that before E.T," he said. "I have seven now, thanks to E.T."
