Noel Gallagher Announces a Solo Album via a Delightful Liam Gallagher–Bashing Press Conference

Here are the facts, delivered via a press conference in London earlier today: Noel Gallagher will be releasing his first post-Oasis project, the solo album Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, on October 17 in the U.K. and November 8 in the U.S. He’s also got another album, a collaboration with the electronic act the Amorphous Androgynous, slated for next year. Here is the dirt, delivered via the same press conference: Noel says he did indeed smash Liam’s guitar in during that infamous fight in Paris the night Oasis broke up, but says he did so because Liam had come in swinging it around like an ax and nearly bashed his face in. Also, at one point during his fit of rage — which stemmed from an earlier argument about Noel not being cool with the tour program featuring an advertisement for Liam’s Pretty Green clothing line — Liam threw a plum at the wall. This is all good stuff, made even better of course by Noel’s wry delivery — and the fact that Liam, presumably in response to the press conference, sent out a wonderful one-word tweet: “SHITBAG.” (Also, at about five minutes in on the video here, Noel attempts a Geordie accent.) Never change, Gallaghers. Never change.
