Today on Vulture Recommends: Songs to Listen to and Movies That Should Have Been New York–ified

Why wasn’t Star Wars set in New York?

Today on Vulture Recommends we have two mighty lists of entertainment musts for you. First up, New York music critic Nitsuh Abebe discloses what he’s been listening to obsessively this week, including flouncy indie poppers The Drums’ latest single, “Money,” and “Time Is On My Side,” written by Jerry Ragovoy, who passed away this week. Also, Friends With Benefits director Will Gluck chimes in with a list of movies that would have been improved were they set in New York. Clearly, this is a guy who likes NYC authenticity: He confesses to Vulture that he’s always annoyed when a New York scene is clearly not shot on location. “Remember the stoop from 227?” he says. “Every movie set here has that stoop! And I’ve never seen that, it doesn’t exist here [in New York]!”
