Was This the Meanest Bachelorette Season Ever?

By
THE BACHELORETTE - "Episode 710" - In this gripping special conclusion, Ashley, who began her search for love with 25 bachelors, survived a shocking and emotionally taxing journey and found herself falling in love with two very different, but wonderful men, Ben F. and J.P. As she prepared to make one of the most difficult decisions of her life, she invited the two remaining bachelors to tour more of the breathtaking island country of Fiji to meet her family. Ashley hoped her family would offer some crucial input about which incredible man they believed would make the better match for her. Then the men had one last chance to lay their hearts on the line, each trying to guarantee that he would be the one to get Ashley's final rose. Once fearful that none of the men would be drawn to her, she now had two men in love with her. It was a dramatic conclusion as she chose J.P., on the Season Finale of "The Bachelorette," MONDAY, AUGUST 1 (8:00-10:02 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network. Was this season of The Bachelorette unusually nasty? The show has seen its share of villains before, and there's no shortage of amped-up drama courtesy of the producers, but John Swansburg at Slate says, "by far, the strangest thing about this season…was how cruel the series was to its ostensible heroine." Is it just that Bentley turned out to be a human piece of garbage? Or did the producers go too far? Or did Ashley just have terrible, terrible judgment? (And does anyone really think that she and JP have a future?)
