Shonda Rhimes is producing a period drama for ABC called Gilded Lillys, set in a fancy New York hotel in 1895. 1895! The show was created by KJ Steinberg, who previously created the short-lived post-hostage show The Nine, and served as a writer and producer on Gossip Girl, neither of which screams "Grover Cleveland–era income-disparity series." Finally, a show with an old-timey woman with a complicated romantic history and a group of also-old-timey supportive — if competitive and determined — friends around her. How do you balance work and love and excitement and commitment and being in 1895? [Deadline]
