Like most celebrities, Whoopi Goldberg prefers adoptees who come with a little bit of a story. So, it should come as no surprise that the actress jumped at the chance to transform the life of the adorable kitten that was thrown off New York's Verrazano bridge in July. Media coverage of the incident (everyone loves a cat story!) resulted in around 140 applications to adopt the Russian blue, and it turns out that Whoopi's was the most attractive of them all. (What? She's a known quantity.) According to her Facebook page, she brought home her new pet today. First order of business? Changing the cat's name from Verrazano to Vinny because, unlike city officials, Whoopi thinks it's kind of weird to name someone after the scene of their most horrible trauma. [NYDN]
