According to the Hollywood Reporter, Captain America did well here, but it did even better overseas: The red, white, and blue superhero movie has now grossed $178 million internationally, compared with $173.5 million domestically. (Thanks mostly to a $5 million opening in China this past weekend.) That statistic is apparently coming as a shock to some observers, who didn’t think it would do well outside the United States “because of its title.” Paramount and Marvel even offered an alternate title (just The First Avenger) to international distributors, but only Russia, Ukraine, and South Korea took them up on it. See? Proof that our reputation abroad remains secure, at least when it comes to action films. [THR]
