Remember when NBC’s schedule was filled with sitcoms built around stand-up comedians? The network clearly does, and in a bid to recapture those glory days, NBC has just signed Dane Cook to develop and star in his own comedy for next fall, a move that puts Cook alongside Sarah Silverman, who’s also working on a fall-targeted project for the network. If you add to those the sitcoms Whitney (starring stand-up Whitney Cummings) and mid-season replacement Are You There Vodka, It’s Me Chelsea (based on and co-starring Chelsea Handler), you’ve got yourselves the makings of a very definite trend — and very possibly, a two-drink minimum.
