Mel Gibson to Write Jewish Hero Movie

Mel Gibson is finally making a movie for his most dedicated fans: the Jews! The occasionally embattled actor/director has signed with Warner Bros. to write a movie about Judah Maccabee, the warrior who led a revolt against the Seleucid Empire in the second century, securing his place as a Jewish hero and inspiring the holiday of Hanukkah. Gibson will be collaborating on the script with Joe Eszterhas, writer of Basic Instinct and Showgirls, because this project definitely needed more talking points. Are you inspired, Lars von Trier? Set up a Rosh Hashanah movie with Bret Easton Ellis, why don't you? [24 Frames/LAT]
