The Week Teeth Took Over Pop Culture

Nick Swardson as Bucky Larson, left, and Liev Schreiber as a hockey player.

How shall we commemorate the post–Labor Day week of 2011? Fashion’s Night Out? The memento mori that was the season premiere of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills? The Republican debate? Eh. There was something far more important going on this week. Teeth.

• Jude Law sports quite the distinctive diastema in Contagion, which opens today, proving that Gwyneth Paltrow is not the only person willing to fug it up for Steven Soderbergh. (He plays a blogger, so of course he couldn’t just be his handsome self.)

• Nick Swardson (pictured above) goes way, way further in the unattractive teeth department with Bucky Larson, which also opens today. Based on the trailer, around half the movie is about how small his penis is, but the other half is about how ridiculously huge his front teeth are. They’re pretty huge!

• This week also gave us the first posters from Goon, which stars Liev Schreiber (also above) as a minor-league hockey player with an underpopulated smile.

• Finally, in real-life news, Evan Rachel Wood apparently lost a tooth when she got elbowed in the face at a dance club. (TMZ somehow, disgustingly, had a photo of the tooth.)

The week of the tooth, everyone.
